Jott.com can save you time and help with typing stress
When I lead Get Clients Now! programs (a simple marketing system created by C.J. Hayden for people in service businesses) I review everyone’s action plans before they start to implement them. I’m leading 2 programs right now, totaling 25 people. Since I usually review each person’s plan twice, that adds up to 50 emails just for this one project. I get tired of typing!
I started by looking into Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9.0 and was very tempted to make the purchase. However, research revealed that I’d probably have to invest in a new sound card and double my computer’s RAM (memory when programs are open). If I did purchase it, I’d be able to dictate this post, and that could be a good thing. But, I wasn’t quite ready.
Before making that investment, I decided to look into www.jott.com, based on a recommendation I’d received a while ago. I’m giving it a try. First of all, it’s free! Here’s a little bit about how it works:
- Import your contacts from Outlook, Plaxo, GoogleMail, YahooMail, AOL and others.
- Call the toll-free Jott number.
- Tell it who to contact (from your contacts, can even create groups), speak your message.
- Have multiple people to contact, you can prepare each message, including reminders to self, in the same call.
- Hang up.
- Message is transcribed (if you want) and sent to person’s email. They’ll receive text version AND voice version.
Biggest drawback? You can only record for 30 seconds per message. Not good for the long-winded.
Surprise benefit? You can prepare multiple messages to multiple contacts in one call.
I tested it today, on a message for one of my group participants. I sent it to myself first. Transcription was almost seamless. I forwarded the message, with corrections, to participant. How will I get around this action? Let the class know they’ll be receiving transcribed feedback on their plans and to listen to the voice message if words don’t make sense.
It’s a start anyway.
